    An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. In the course of a letter he describes a remarkable incident which occurred on Christmas Eve between the British and German trenches.

Tonight’s the night for the skittlers of Bideford and district, for the annual dinner of the local league is being held at the Westward Ho! Holiday Centre.

Among those to receive trophies will be the Appledore WMC A team who won the President’s Cup. The team – Messrs P Reed, G Bignell, W Hutchings, H Morse, D Curtis, H Ransom.

Losing finalists were Maltscoop A team. The team – E Edworthy, T Gubb, W Harris, L Gifford, J Williams, C H Tanton.
