Stella Maris Win Netball Championships

Two Championships

14.3.1969 Sport netball

Teams from the Stella Maris School, Bideford, won the senior and intermediate championships at the North Devon Netball rally at Barnstaple's County Secondary School last week.

The teams, are: Mary Patient, Carol Davey, Judith Payne, Elizabeth Adlington, Monique Jackson, Helen Cork, Aphansa Bassipour, Louisa Gollins, Susan Heard, Martine Jackson, Judith Cork, Louisa Brooks and Marilyn Cuthill.

Jane Deacon and Margaret Mortimer, who also took part, are not in the photograph.

Torrington Minors, although ousted by Newton Spurs in the semi-final of Devon Minor Cup, have the consolation of being the North Devon area champions in the competition.

They are: L Jury, S Copp, D Parish, S Hutchings, M Cooke, J Pitts, D Short, P Alexander, R Ayre, M Copp, B Baker, I Baker, G Isaac.

Schools Combine for Athletics Meeting

Three Schools’ Athletics Meeting At Langtree

28.7.1961 Langtree School athletics


At the first athletics meeting to be staged between the county primary schools of Buckland Brewer, Instow and Langtree by invitation of the headmaster, Mr R A Yeo Jenn, the host school won the cup by a substantial margin.

After keenly contested events watched by more than 200 parents and friends, Mr Ken Whitfield (player-manager of Bideford AFC) presented the trophy to Langtree sports captain John Sanders and congratulated those responsible for the excellent organisation.

Langtree school was thanked by headmasters Mr L Beech and Mr A F Levick.
