    An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. Mr Charles Shackson retires

45 Years with Clovelly Lifeboat

1967 Mr Charles Shackson retires from Clovelly Lifeboat
 Mr Charles Shackson of 59 The Quay, Clovelly, who has retired after 45 years with the local lifeboat became a crewman at 18.
When, at the meeting of the Clovelly branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, he was presented with the long service plaque, it was stated that during his association with the lifeboat it had rescued 53 people.
Mr Shackson, who is suceeded as mechanic by Mr Tom Cruse, is one of five brothers who have served in the lifeboat crew as did their father and grandfather before them. Brother Percy is still assistant winchman and brother Fred shore signalman, and son-in-law Mr Michael Keet serves with the inshore lifeboat at Bude.

A meat whist drive held at the Parish Hall and organised by the Clovelly Liberal Association made over £11 profit.
M.C was Mr G Smith with 14 tables in play. Mr K Braund was door steward.
Prizes were presented by Mrs P Jones to: ladies - Mrs J Withecombe, Mrs M Robins, Mrs J Beer. Gents - Mr J Willcocks, Mrs Davis, Mr J Cottle. Consolotation prize winners were Mesdames S Squire, A Jeffrey, J Bragg, Messrs J Burrow, V Stoneman, Miss Sheila Frances. Draw winners were Michael Cook, Mrs A Shackson, Mrs E Tridgell, Mr J Withecombe, Miss S Ellis.
In charge of refreshments were Mesdames T Ashwood, A Taylor, K Cook.
