son born to princess elizabethRoyalty.  Bells in many North Devon churches pealed out and flags were flown yesterday to mark the birth of a son to Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, which was announced at 10.10 p.m. on Sunday.

At Bideford Borough magistrates' court, the Chairman of the magistrates, Ald H A W Huxham, said they were very happy to know of the birth of a son to Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth.

Arrangements were in hand at Torrington for a bonfire to be lit in the evening.  To the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the following telegram signed by the Town Clerk, Mr S J Parkes, was sent:  "The Mayor, Alderman and Burgesses of the Borough of Great Torrington, Devon, send loyal greetings and offer their sincere congratulations on the birth of the Royal Prince.

On receipt of the happy news at Appledore, the Vicar, Rev H C A S Muller, arranged for peals to be rung on the church bells.
