A story to tell!

Councils that know their business

North Devon resorts relying on their popularity with visitors for prosperity show their enterprise and good business sense in advertising a welcome to holidaymakers.

12 March 1954 A story to tell

Here is a message sent out via the National dailies and weeklies during the past few weeks and as a direct result the publicity department at Northam have been handling hundreds of enquiries weekly.

Gazette article 12 March 1954

Centenary of the Gazette

Gazette celebrates 100 years

The infant Gazette, which was first published as a monthly and then became a weekly, soon began to build up its circulation. Today it is estimated each issue is seen by some 30,000 people actual copies sold having increased by over 50 per cent since 1939.

12 March 1954 Centenary of Gazette

Today, a home of ships, a busy main road, and a pleasant promenade, Bideford Quay is all these and more .

The magic of far-away places and strange-sounding names is still to be found along Bideford Quay which was reconstructed in its present form 64 years ago.
